@swasfews: Maybe backstory is the wrong word, more proper introductions and establishment I guess. The changelings just felt like a Giant Space Flea Out Of Nowhere and emotions reach their height at such a quick level it makes the ponies look a bit like jerks (Twilight is very quick to deduce Candece must be a total jerk, as are the other ponies to completely reject her in response, though they are called out on that at least).

Also the Queen was an okay villain, but one of the most generic in the series, as said before, even by kids show standards, a lot of the villains in the series are a bit too Anviliciously eeevullzz. She might have worked better if they looked into her minions more (which seemed like a vaguely sympathetic trait) or had her more profound in Mind Screw tactics, but overall she just seems like Nightmare Moon with extra gloating and "BLEEAGGH, LOVE IS STUPID".

Fridge Logic moment. Twilight claimed that before coming to Ponyville, Shining Armor was the only pony she ever truly accepted as a friend. What does that make Cadence? (Or for that matter, her parents?)

Maybe she finds friends and parent figures to be separate. A sibling, even an older one, often has a more laid back relationship. Babysitters are more authoritian, even if Cadence seems to be all but. Admit it does seem a bit contradictory though. She only had one friend.....except the other coolest pony in the world.

@Ginger: I've read CRISIS. Yeah, I suspected that the nudity was the problem before they did and found it amusing. Glad that you're enjoying it. I've just rechecked the cover art and thought "While it's appropriate that Tick Tock wears a watch, isn't it unnecessary?" IIRC, one of her powers as a chronomancer is that she always knows exactly what the time is.
