Fanbase is bigger, and transformed from fans of memes into fans of show. It more difficult for meme to survive and spread.

I was never sick of any meme because it was so much repeated. Only I sick of those not cool for from start.

I think the reason for the lower concentration of season 2 memes is the saturation. that is to say, it was very easy for season 1 things to become memes because it was all we had. Now we've got loads of material and ideas from the show, so it's hard for any one thing to become memetic with so much competing material. This is also the reason things like sweetiepoo have faded; with actual material relating to the characters, we no longer lean on the memes as a means of 'knowing' them.
