I realized earlier today that what I had thought was a big flaw in the Changeling Queen's plan was actually a bit of Fridge Brilliance. If she'd simply killed Cadance instead of imprisoning her, then she would never have been defeated... but Changelings feed on Love, and Cadance has a magical ability that allows her to create love. She's way too valuable to kill. In fact, the changelings didn't want to kill anyone, only enslave them, which makes the Queens actions in general make a lot more since. For instance, she probably didn't just mind control Shining Armor and have him drop the force field as soon as she could, because she wanted to spend the days leading up to the wedding absorbing as much love as possible from him, granting her immense power.

I'm probably really slow on this, aren't I?

The whole Green Lantern mythos always seemed rather silly to me... but then again I am a fan of a show about brightly colored talking ponies, so I suppose I shouldn't talk.

Yeah, but that won't stop me for looking for logical, in-universe reasons to explain such things. Discord didn't kill anyone because he just wanted to have fun screwing with them.

Was talking with some people at a gathering today and this show came up. One person I didn't know said it's dribble, isn't like the original Ponies, and the characters are obnoxious.

It wasn't part of the larger topic we were discussing, which was if character designers today grasp good design as it used to be 30 years ago. So I didn't think too much of it.
