I'll admit that I actually find some elements of gelding, and castration, quite interesting. I actually once looked up the physiological changes that occur after castration out of curiosity, and did a bit of reading on the mental changes as well. There's a severe drop in testosterone production, after all.

I'm one of those sorts of people who wants to know everything, so even though I obviously wouldn't want ti to happen to me I can't help but wonder what it's like to be a castrati. I hear tell that they're often very calm and serene.
