@Lyra Someone noticed that Scootaloo seems similar to the Apple Family physically, that lead to the idea that Scootaloo was an illegitimate child of one of the members of the Apple Family, she was sent to live in the Everfree Forest as a result, and was raised by Timber Wolves. They decided she should integrate herself into pony society, though to serve as a liason between ponies and Timber Wolves.

@Storyyeller: I'm kinda familiar with it. The ponies sort of rear up and try to hit each other with their forelegs before they have to go back on all fours. There's a lot of emphasis on keeping your balance and timing your rearing correctly so that you can try to catch your opponent while they can't defend.
