The only solutions I've been able to find are f(n) = c0 * c1^(2^n), but that has only 1 degree of freedom, so it doesn't help. A general solution must have 3 degrees of freedom.

It's a reccurence relation. Given the first three values of f, you have to find the rest.

It's a technique I learned in Algebra 2. Though looking at your problem it actually seems to be more an issue about the variable then leveling.
