I'd say pegasi are the primary developers of martial arts. Because a pegasi who knows martial arts is 20... well, you know.

It makes sense for pegasi to specialise more in ranged warfare, leaving the earth ponies as the lead melee martial arts developers. Then again, the pegasi are the warriors, so maybe hey developed nearly all forms of combat.

Yeah Pegasi effectively have six limbs, so they can easily use all four legs whilst the wings provide movement.
