@Badwolf: Because you must know your kana and kanji and learn slang and that it's actually harder without kanji to give context. And then you nerdrage when you realise Chinese is actually a little easier to read because hanzi are more consistent.

The fun part about both languages is that there are some crazy puns that can be made because of lol pronunciation trickery.
