The Cylons would be kind of ill-suited for the MLP universe. There's no electronics to hack and manipulate so it'd be a little harder to catch the Equestrian military off guard.

Just use nanites. Those work on anything (as long as it isn't TS Sed or already nanited)

I read somewhere that Cadence is Celestia's Niece, which would mean that Celestia has other sisters out there, or that Luna has had children?

Maybe the alicorns are created by some other means, and aren't actually related, but use family terms since there are so few of them. So Celestia and Luna call each other sisters since they came into being at around the same time, and Cadence is a niece because she's more recent.

As for where they come from, who knows, maybe they bud off the alicorn tree or something.
