re Taxi's: Well it does make sense to have a few, biggest reason would be for ponies going in vacations like Rarity's parents, odds are they have a lot of luggage they might not want to carry all the way there. Or on the days some pony is just feeling lazy.

Unfortunately, in the US you need a car to go just about anywhere. I wish is weren't so, but train stations and bus stations aren't as prevalent as they could be.

I've only used the NYC subway a handful of times, but like I said, I got lost each time I used it, and yeah, it smells pretty funky. Not to mention that I like walking anyway, so I'd probably just take the extra time and get some exercise.
I have never been on New York, they don't seem to be as abd as here

Ginger, you might be the only person I know to actually unironically like the subway system. I think for most people it's a slightly unpleasant experience that is outweighed by it's convenience.

Thankfully, the DC metro is relatively clean. The smell of piss and vomit isn't ever-present. It's still not especially clean, but it's bearable for short periods.

The transit here is quite good but because most people drive the wait time between buses is a little bit long. Transit in London and Paris is amazing and so convenient but the best I've found is in Hong Kong. I was a bit apprehensive of the subway in New York buts its alright, the taxis are better.
About pony taxis. Fluttershy does seem to live in the far outlying areas so its probably further for her.
