I'm surprised that people find Rarity and Rainbow Dash hanging out together completely out of the left field. Didn't Dash model for Rarity in one of the season 1 episodes?

I'm not sure it was entirely forced, but it was clear Dash was getting bored. She probably agreed without thinking about what she'd have to do for Rarity. I guess you could count that as a sort of coercion, but I'd argue no one forced her into it.

I can see Pinkie Pie with a nice, quiet stallion, actually. He's the quiet but encouragingly cheerful pony who's patient enough to sit through all her antics, and she's the perky pony that adds spice to his otherwise mundane routine.
