If we'd end up actually doing one, I think we would need to prepare a bit beforehand, I don't think we'd be up for doing it right now...

I read the book, never saw the movie. Wasn't really interested, and the new plan to kill everyone in NYC was kind of lame compared to the squid monster thing.

Well I've got a sockpuppet ready, though it'd have to be at a time when I have acess to library computers due to the IP stuff.

There are still plenty of good films out there that down come from a novel or comic Ginger, The Bicycle Thief for Example or The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

All adaptions of previous material (with a very few exceptions) from one medium to another are worse then the original.

To me Harry Potter movies are better than the books, a textbook case of Adaptation Destilation

EDIT: red link, can't see what I mispelt. Another Renamed Trope?

Don't be silly. They got rid of Peeves. And "It unscrews the other way."

I honestly don't see how the ending being changed in that way ruined anything. What did it alter in the story really? Not much.

@Ginger, When it comes to say movie adaptations of books or anime versus manga, then I would say yes. I do love movies though, don't get me wrong, film is always fantastic and wouldn't trade it's existence for anything else, but there's something to be said for being able to choose your own pacing and not having a 2.5 hour time limit.

And I agree Pannic, losing Peeves was a sad day for the films.

I'd argue Invasion of the Body Snatchers is better on film than in print. Especially the Donald Sutherland version.

The change from squid monster to Dr. Manhattan-based bombs isn't the problem. The problem is that they took a very muted comic book and turned it into a stylized action flick. Also they ruined Ozymandias's characterization by making him obviously the villain.

[up]x7 I just thought the squid monster was more interesting :/

@Pannic Yeah, they added Nite Owl giving a Reason You Suck Speech to him that really wasn't needed

I actually think Big blue doing the destruction was more interesting and showed he was resigned to Ozy's idea Though I don't remember Ozy very well in the movie, probably because his role was so downplayed and then BOOM villain.

I actually enjoyed the third Harry Potter film. Then again, I've not read the books.

There are issues with the 3rd movie, but I still think it was the best one, just like it was the best book.

Problem with the Harry Potter movies is the changes raise a handful of plotholes. For example, in the fifth book, Harry is able to see Thestrals for the first time because he witnesses Cedric Diggory's murder. Buuuut in the movies he already saw Quirrel's death. Because he kinda killed him. Which somewhat ruins the whole Technical Pacifist thing he tends to have going for him.

@Ginger, oddly enough, the 3rd book was my favorite, well next to the fifth anyway.

Never saw the films past 3, fell asleep watching 4 and I didn't like the new visual style nor Flitwick and Dumbledore's replacements, too angry and not enough whimsy.
