Well, you sort of are - your trying to bring up a topic different from the current one. Just...I dunno, hold on to it until there's either a real lull, as in, people have stopped posting every five minutes, or until we happen to stumble across a topic that would make for a good segway - wait until we're talking about the CMC, or alternate character interpretations, or something. There aren't that many things to discuss in this show, I promise you'll find an opening soon.

You also seem to be confusing the ditz, where that is their defining trait, with a ditz, who is just a bit scatterbrained.

And neither should be confused with Ditzy Doo, though she may be an example of one or both.

Personally, I think the word "Derpy" carries an implication of being mentally retarded.

That, and "Ditzy Doo" is a name actually used in dialogue, even though we never do find out if they're one and the same.

I go by the name Ditzy Doo, considering that Derpy Hooves doesn't sound like a name that would be in Fi M. And it's just kind of a lame sounding name

also kegisak, I may have missed something but I disagree with you're claims that Snips and Snails aren't as dumb as the seem. they couldn't grasp the simple logic of "seeing is believing" with Trixie's stories. and lets not forget this exchange.

On the contrary, I think this is a great way to blow off Spike's use of the inane short form of "The proof of the pudding is in the eating." It's just like when people say "happy as a clam" when they mean "happy as a clam at high tide", and you're left to wonder what about clams makes them naturally happy all the time.

I'm fine with either name, really. If Ditzy is revealed to be her canonical name in season 2, I'll start using it, but I know a lot of people will keep using 'Derpy Hooves' either out of They Changed It, Now It Sucks, as an affectionate nickname, or... one more thing.

There's a loooooot of people who can't seem to grasp that logic. They're called religious.

Okay, that was a bit mean, I'll admit. But the point still stands - many people are willing to take things on faith, and that doesn't make them stupid. They even had a first hand demonstration of Trixie's skill - they watched her beat three of the best ponies in town, all on her own. When you're a teenager, that shit's impressive. And they didn't know anything about Ursa majors - shit, even Twilight had to look it up to be sure - so you can hardly blame them for underestimating it.

I feel bad for pulling this out again, since I was quite rightly called out on it, but you can't always judge things from a first glance. However, in this case I do have evidence to back me up.

And much as I'd like to take Food's reasoning - since it's goddamn brilliant - it's entirely feasible that snails simply wasn't listening. My brother, who while not intelligent, is by no means stupid, does this all the time - comes into a conversation halfway through, says something that he thinks makes sense, but turns out completely inane. I've done it myself more than once.

I'd like to see some of the cast's families show up. And someone already mentioned this, but Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo need a focus episode. And more Applejack, lots more Applejack.

Edit: I'm willing to be generous and attribute Snips and Snails' ignorance that episode to a precocious crush on Trixie.
