Hey y'all, looks like you're welcoming Supserp and Zapper to this herd :D

On that deal about hard drive data recovery, it depends on the nature. If it's a simple scrambled data thing, you can get recovery software to dump the contents and untangle it (then back it up elsewhere), if it's a simple mechanical fault you can get some recovery companies to help you transplant the platters into a new drive assembly, if there was spindle scrape your data is toast. Best idea, call a data recovery company to check the drive for you, although it ain't cheap.
