Who's still gonna be watching toons at 1 PM? I always stopped watching by like, 11 at the latest. Granted, that's when the boring stuff started coming on, like the news and whatnot.
Exactly. If they had kept showing cartoons into the afternoon, I would have kept watching them.

Did you know that Windows still takes forever to defragment? Two and a half hours...

No wonder Solid State Drives are becoming more popular, since defragging is not needed for them.

Also I blame slow defragging on the sheer volume of our modern drives, hundreds of Gigabytes large, as well as outdated defrag software. Yeah, our machines are much faster now, but it's not like anyone has coded a hyperthread-friendly defragger that can utilize all the cores and more RAM to defrag faster.

Also holy crap lolover is a godlike artist the linework makes me jealous.

[up][up]That, and the fact that NTFS is IMO a crap filesystem. I mean, even Linux figured out how to have a fragmentation-free filesystem (really filesystems, there's a ton of them that Linux supports) years ago, and yet Windows is still saddled with the aging NTFS.

Blah, I think my time with Linux just spoiled me is all. Once you go Linux, you can't ever really go back... Have some Derpy.

Did you know that Windows still takes forever to defragment? Two and a half hours...

It should only take 10-30 minutes. That's typical for my machine, and I run Windows 7.

It's not the size of the hard drive that matters, its how much of it is used. Also, never defrag while doing other things—if you run defrag, you have to let the computer sit for awhile. Running other programs WILL slow a defrag down (in older Windows versions, they would simply stop because the contents of the drive kept changing).

Also, hate to be a doomsayer here, but if Windows or any of its functions are being unreasonably slow then its probably a sign of a virus. Literally every time someone's complained to me that their Windows machine is too slow, I ran a scan and found a huge virus or malware infection.

[up] Two and a half hours on my Windows 7 install. Wasn't even that badly fragmented either... though I was doing things, couldn't exactly leave my computer be when you're on Skype with someone watching Bleach. tongue Only reason I put up with Windows is because the games I play don't quite cooperate with Wine very well at the moment (TF 2 crashes if set above Low).

Mainly the reason I stick to Windows is mostly familiarity, and because all my programs run there. Especially my games. Now, if they could fix Wine up real nice and improve driver support for everything, I might be tempted to defect to the Penguins. So far the only slowness I see is Seven running a bit slowly on the AMD Brazos Fusion APU and the Intel N455, but then again those are lower-powered processors, my Clarksdale-powered desktop is blazing fast even after nearly 2 years.

I wonder what kind of computers/OS the Mane Six would run? I bet Twi would have numerous rigs and be familiar with most different systems.

I haven't tried defragging my new computer yet. Even my old Windows ME computer didn't take 2 1/2 hours (at least, in its early years when it was able to defrag.)

Yep, being on Skype and watching Bleach will slow Defrag down. The problem is that Defrag is having to find a way to move those bytes without messing up an active process. Imagine trying to rearrange a room while two kids are in it watching a movie, and you're trying very hard not to interrupt them, and you have an idea what Defrag is going thru.

I personally defrag once a month, and always at a time when I know I won't be using the computer for awhile. And I run Spybot, Malwarebytes and Avira Antivirus scans every night (those can be run while you're doing other things). Windows 7 works fine for me.

Edit - And yes, Defrag ASAP and on a regular basis. I had a computer I used all the time but never defragged for two whole years. By that time, the hard drive was so effed up that defrag would always just cop out. And this severely hampers performance.

On-Topic Edit - Personally I imagine the ponies being Windows-users, though it wouldn't surprise me if Twilight Sparkle (and maybe Pinkie Pie) had some programming/hacking skills.

So after I left you guys talked about Pokemon, Digimon and Prince Blueblood, The Magnificent. And I still haven't caught up. Do you guys wait for me to leave to talk about the best stuff or something?

I don't plan anything. I jump into the thread when the mood strikes me, and if the conversation is something I find unfavorable, I leave... or try to turn it back towards something I like.

That's why I disappeared during the Pokemon discussion earlier. Not a huge fan. No matter how cute Duplika is.

@Syd: Mac OS and iOS aren't difficult to pick up for casual use, but they're not suited for high and low level customizers.

Also we now have art of Daring Do when she's actually in school to teach :D

Personally, I could see the ponies using these as follows:

  • Twilight Sparkle (and Spike by association, I guess) use Linux in some form (probably Ubuntu or Fedora)
  • Rarity uses Mac OS because of the whole designer thing. Fluttershy would as well, for reasons I'm still not clear about... it just fits her, I guess.
  • Applejack and Dash are the regular Windows users because Applejack wants something that just works, and Dash doesn't have the patience to put up with the little quirks of either Mac OS or the well-known Linux distributions.
  • Pinkie Pie probably dabbles in all three, just for shits and giggles. tongue

Wouldn't it be funny if Applejack owned a Mac?

A Big Mac? tongue

Also, now that I've popped the idea of Pinkie being a hacker, I can't get it out of my mind. It's silly and makes no sense, but it just... works. Someone fanfic it, now!

Twi totally uses some distro of Linux in Command Line mode as her main, but is also familiar with all the other OS because. Spike carries a rooted and modified-by-Twi Android device which she uses as a mobile resource sometimes, complete with Rarity Live Wallpaper [lol]

Rarity and Fluttershy are more Mac users, Rarity because her fashion drafting software runs there, and Fluttershy because Rarity introduced her.

Dashie would be more of a mobile device user who uses whatever the Wonderbolts have (most likely an iPhone or an Android tablet or something), AJ would have a simple PC (or Mac, hahahaha) at home that Big Mac uses most for farming blogs and community sites, and Pinkie is almost as OS-agnostic as Twi and uses whatever strikes her fancy.

[up]Pinkie is totally a sort of harmless troll-hacker, who breaks into systems but doesn't do more than leave funny pictures of cats or Rickrolls or even just birthday greetings.

All this talk of computer usage caused a question to pop into my head:

What would Applejack like more: Harvest Moon or Farmville?

(Actually, I think it more likely she would hate farming games since that's her real-life occupation and people generally play games to escape reality, but I couldn't help asking).

Prolly Harvest Moon, especially once she realises the Equestrian Version of Farmville was made by the Flim-Flams and she remembers the Cider Incident.

Also, this got funnier after the recent episodes while THIS MUST BE DONE

When it comes to what video games the ponies would like, it strikes me as very likely their tastes would be something you'd never ever associate with them.

Like, I could totally imagine Fluttershy coming to our world, walking up to a Street Fighter II arcade machine, and beating it on a single quarter. Meanwhile, Rainbow Dash winds up spending ten whole dollars before she even gets to Vega.

That's assuming, of course, they don't get distracted by all the men asking them for dates.
