Ouch. When I was much younger, and before I had a car, I took the bus most of the way to work. One time, I was approaching the end of a side street just in time to see the bus go sailing by. I just kept walking, nearly eight miles. By the time I got to work, I was in considerable pain.

"The Phantom Bus" reminds me of something I like to call the Mystery Bus that I've seen go by twice. It's painted completely black and drives past at midnight or 2AM. I really wonder what it could be.
