Alright, I think its been an eventful evening for all of us. Its past midnight for me... maybe this whole mystery will clear up by the end of next week.

Remember friends, somepony loves you.

Oh come on, you stopped lurking, don't go back.

I'm not really a fan of the new voice, but I can deal with it, it's not that bad. Aside from this whole Derpy thing, did anything else happen today?

[up] Every time I watch that video, the chubby Fluttershy gets me. Every time.

It's more that this is a topic that I literally have no opinion on, and nothing but anger can result from talking about other people's reactions. So I'm out until the topic switches.

Um... we talked about candy bars... twice apparently, And Ancestry.... before the shit hit the fan.

AULD LANG SYNE!

THREE GODDAMN MONTHS IT TOOK ME TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE HEARTH'S WARMING CAROL REMINDED ME OF! It reminds me of auld lang syne. Are the two similar on any more than a superficial degree, or am I just crazy? I dunno, but goddamn that has been bugging me every time I heard it.

Derpy's eyes are still derped in some parts of the edited version, just not as extremely as in the original version.

See? Once we get over the initial reaction we aren't so bad. Definitely not at Sonic levels.

Ancestry, huh? I'm pretty much mostly East European. Some Polish and Ukrainian, and then some English thrown into the mix somewhere, too.

@ kegi Now that you mention it, I can totally hear similarities with Auld Lang Syne. It might just be the style of the songs though.

Wait.

Kegisak got a music reference... before me?

Anybody comparing this to the Sonic fandom was obviously never a part. From 2005 to 2008, levels of rage that were a little worse than what just happened, constantly. And it never let up.

In all seriousness though, I'm not sure how to feel right now. Glad I got the original Last Roundup in 1080p now though.

Okay, I think I'm completely calm now. Even if that's the new thing on iTunes, we still have the original, so... yeah. Let's just hope that this kind of shitstorm doesn't happen again.

@Kegisak:...no? I definitely thought of church hymns though when I first heard it. Then again I'm sleep-deprived.

Im just a little cranky cuz I have to work a 12 hour shift tonight, and theres still 3 hours to go. *grumble*

English/Irish/Lithuanian/Polish

I am about a quarter polish, give or take. About the only part of that culture thats carried over into my family is homemade pierogies and having Oplatek at christmas dinner.

I thought of that song from the first Grinch movie.

That ended a lot faster than I thought it would, actually. It's not a real shitstorm unless people are arguing for days. Now, let us morn our loss and move on:

Thanks Demon Shark Kisame, now I've got the G Gundam battle tune stuck in my head. Off to watch GG videos.

I don't know if it counts as a reference or anything like that, all I know is that I'd had the vague thought of it every time I saw the video. Then suddenly I saw the embedded clip, and auld lang syne started to play in my head.

The two sound similar, but I don't think I'd go so far as to call it a reference. Doesn't seem like the tune is the same, just the... I don't know, scale? The same sort of sound, anyways.
Crowind avatar
#106547
The scale, maybe, if Auld Lang Syne is usually sang in D, which is the Circle of Friendship's scale. The chord progression is not the same, definitely. But like I said, they both are structurally similar to many other church hymns. I don't know, Pannic can probably tell you more about this.

Though it's kinda odd, as Auld Lang Syne is traditionally a song for New Years rather than Christmas...

Obviously the Circle of Friends song is inspired by Christmas hymns/carols, though I never figured a specific one.

#106549
I took hearth warming's eve to be sort of a mix of Christmas and new years eve. It's a big enough moment historically to warrant starting a new calendar, and big enough socially to warrant it being a major holiday. It's sort of a perfect bundle thing.

Makes sense. It's really more of a Thanksgiving/Independance Day thing though.
