Speaking of Magical Girls do you think I could do a Madoka Magica crossover without making it awkward?

^^It could certainly be interesting, and Madoka grimdark is better on principle than 'ponies get stabbed for no reason' grimdark. I say go for it.

While I wouldn't mind another one or two Elements of Harmony episode, it seems like it'd be difficult to engineer another threat that requires the Elements to defeat. Nightmare Moon was essentially an evil goddess, after all, even if she didn't do all that much with her power, and using the Elements on a hydra or somesuch would just be overkill. Of course, since it's Word Of God that whatever turned Luna into Nightmare Moon was an outside force and not (entirely) her own jealousy...

I'd actually try to balance the two in tone. Seeing how a world as utopian as My Little Pony interact with DEEPLY messed up characters.

Yeah, that's a really interesting idea. I'd like to see how Homura or Sayaka fares in a world where everything isn't stacked against them. I'm actually currently doing a massive crossover thing that's eventually going to have characters from MLP and Madoka interact, although I'm sure you'll beat me to it.

I also want to see how Kyubey reacts to a world that kicks all known science to the curb. And we could work together on that.

See this is why I don't want Magical Girl elements- I don't want to have to know a bunch of anime to keep up with discussions of the show itself! Am I the only one with next to no interest in Luna or the elements of harmony and all that jazz?

I'm more interested in non-villainous antagonists though, so I'm just the teensy bit biased. I'm also more interested in less fantastical and more explorations of real world counterparts like say Fillydelphia. I want to see more Pixar-esque jokes about the intricacies of the pony-world.

I agree. While I can probably enjoy the show no matter what direction it goes. I am most interested in the creators fleshing out Equestria.

Why should you? Even if there will be more Magical Girl episodes, even if they are stuffed full of shout outs, why should you be able to personally catch them all?

I would read both Madoka's fics too :). Just imagine pinkie and Homura lol that would be awesome.

Even if the show does go the Magical Girl route, I doubt it'll have that many shout outs. As far as I know, the people doing the show aren't really Magical Girl fans, so as far as we're concerned the only shout outs we'll see will be to Sailor Moon. Besides, just because there may be a more adventurous, overarching plot doesn't necessarily equal Magical Girl. There are all sorts of ways that they could have antagonists of that sort.

If they wanted it to be more adventurous rather than slice-of-life, they could just revive villains from G1, like the demonic Tirac or Penguin Hitler.

Yeah, the way I see it, the main characters engage in lots of different kinds of heroics throughout the series, so the second episode can be seen as the one where those heroics just happened to take the form of a magical girl spoof.

My niece is also a fan, and she's 2. She even has an Applejack and Rainbow Dash figurine.

I'm reading fanfiction for it right now. I have not done this in years. The last fanfics for series I read were Tenchi Muyo and Powerpuff Girls. I attempted to write fanfic for them, but never finished them. I may or may not do it for this show, though...

I'm drawing fanart for it, though... I've already got a few funny ideas, mainly Princess Celestia spouting lines from Metal Wolf Chaos.
