Apparently a chunk of the fanbase assumed that "Derpy" was a slur against the mentally disabled, even though all actually means in practice is "dumb".

Anyway, how reliable are those twitter postings? I have no clue who either of those people are.

It was a word created by South Park, for all we know it DOES refer to someone who's mentally handicapped.

Definitions for words can change over time (look at the word gay for instance)

...Eh, I'm not really that bothered. A silly decision, sure, but not one I'm going to get upset over. Then again I've barely even seen Derpy so maybe I'll be outraged if she grows on me or something.

^^ It was a word created by South Park that has nothing to do with any sort of mental disability, though. It was just a sound effect used by some guy with a crappy slapstick sense of humor.

@Ginger: I've never seen the word used specifically as a slur against disabled people. It may have started that way, but at present I've only ever seen it used to refer to regular stupidity or to bizarre faces.

It might be legal matters, wasnt all Derpy stuff fan-made? If so now that she actually has been named in-show and is a "Offical character" Hasbro might want to guard themselves from lawsuits and the what not by ousting third party products.

@L Mage: Reminds me of a comic I saw (I think it was pre-Luna Eclipsed but couldn't say for sure) where Luna bumped into Owloysius one night and they became fast friends.
