Partly, she truly belives the things she says, but she still can and does feel deficent and inferior a lot of the time, so she tries to drown that feeling in pride and success. Thats why she went so overboard in MMDW, everyone was feeding into her ego and she was quick to drink it in, but paniced when it looked like that was going away.

... Spike needs his own spin-off. Where we see what he's doing during the episodes where he doesn't appear (or where he doesn't appear very often, like Dragonshy)

re: Twilight missing in action

I'm not to worried about her going Out of Focus, whenever a show makes the shift to a more Ensemble Cast format the main character's screen time always take a huge hit. Right now the writer a just trying to find a balance.

Which to be fair wasn't that long ago. Also the earth ponies got the shaft on the episodes last season so this is just making up for it.

Also, I know it's obvious that Twi will be involved but... what if she isn't?

What if NONE of the mane cast are in it but RD.

What if she starts reading books and imagines the stories as if they were being acted out by her friends (complete with snarky RD commentary)

This will make for three RD episodes, two Twilight, three Pinkie Episodes, two Rarity, one Spike, Two Applejack, and zero Fluttershy.

That would actually be a really cool plot device.
