So, I was thinking about the ways Applejack and Rainbow Dash acted in this episode, and I don't think they were running contrary to their elements.
Appljack's entire problem here was that she felt that she let everyone down.
She gave her word to come back with the money and prizes and all that, and when she didn't do as well as she'd promised, she felt that she couldn't come back. She had lost her
honor, or so she thought. Let's just be glad she's not a samurai. Heck, the fact that she was willing to even go the "half-truth" route to get out of Dodge is something of a testament to how badly it had effected her.
As for Rainbow Dash, she had to make a snap decision about Rarity and Pinkie. She continued to chase after Applejack because she both needed them more, and because Applejack "abandoning" them had really left an impression on her. What would be more important for the Element of Loyalty? Going back to grab them, or getting the truth out of a friend who appears to have abandoned her friends, family, and hometown?
Now that I've said that, I'm going to go back to being food-centric. I really want to make a batch of cherrychangas, now.
Pinkie using winning him over with her usual antics (or even at all) will probably just serve topiss me the fuck off.
So, the moral would be "sometimes, people just don't want to be your friend.
Give up."?
