He wants to achieve godhood. He needs a pegasus and a unicorn to achieve the perfect form, so after a very long series of events, he manages to get the protagonist (a unicorn) and the other Big Bad (a pegasus) into the same room with the necessary magical mutation crap to get it done. Doesn't work.

My memory's fuzzy about what happens, and reading the whole thing would give a clearer idea of what happens.
