Nah the Everfree potatoes aren't explosive, there full of starch, which can get very sticky, there like a super ultra glue, but yes they can power pony lightbulbs.

I'm pretty sure real ponies can eat potatos. They're pretty much 100% starch.

My best guess would be that durians would be used like the pie munitions - they explode and cover you with, oh, what was the phrase... YMMV-smelling juice, but don't actually hurt anything except pride.
