They started as a group of militia, trained in both the sword and the plow, to protect the humble village during its most vulnerable growing stages.
As the town grew in size, so did their numbers, and their skill. In time, they became a formally-recognized military unit, known for their bravery and loyalty to both their clan and their country.
They were called... the Apple Corps.

God, I'd always thought it was pronounced Corpse. I'd even heard it pronounced, then, I'd just thought it was a different word.
I'd have to imagine they'd bred with other races at some point, yeah. But I'd doubt whole branches of pegasi or unicorns...
