So, being a male, I had reservations about seeing the show, but just now, I watched the first episode online.

Honestly, nothing really stands out for me other than the more irreverent humor in addition to the usual cutesy, wholesome stuff. I do like how it doesn't talk down to the audience though.

The way I think about it, they write the episodes as episodes, then sit down and say "So what can we learn from this"

The aseops don't write the show. The show writes the aseops.

I think what people in general like about it are the characters. They REALLY DO make the show. They're each an individual and I can really see an episode with absolutely no plot and it would still be entertaining.

I may not become a brony and have the time to watch the whole thing, but shows like these make me glad you can make something great out of what people previously assumed on first hearing the premise is a bad 80's commercial.

Men are naturally defensive about their own masculinity. It's all "Alpha Male" syndrome.

However, I found that once you don't worry about what's 'manly' and what's not, it's SO much more liberating.

Most of the demographic for moe anime shows like K-On! are male. I think we're getting somewhat of the same thing here.

Girls tend to love it because the characters are such forces of nature (yes, even Fluttershy) and not just one-note like how most shows and films portray women. And because of the cuteness and funny obviously.

it's possible, but I'm sure it wouldn't be as bad. After all, childishness can be seen as cute for girls, so it's not as negative, and they don't tend to be made fun of for it.

Let down that 'man guard' however, and you pretty much give everyone around you a free pass.

Yeah, MR. and Mrs. Cake are different too. So's Big Mac, Blueblood, and the draft unicorns from 'at the gala'. It's just because giving the main cast different body types would be to rough on the animators, so only minor characters that don't need to be animated a lot get different bodies.

There's a major difference between Twilight and Ponies.

Ponies are good enough that the peripheral demograph is BIGGER than its intended audience. It speaks VOLUMES about its quality.

The best comparison, for me, is Princess Tutu. The title itself is incredibly girly, it's about a magical girl who saves people with ballet and it's all based on fairytales... AND IT IS AWESOME!
