As to why no royal sisters at the play, I like the theory that they were each at other towns plays, like how the summer sun celebration is held in random towns, Celestia, and now Luna go watch random towns HWE plays to make sure they know there princesses care about them all, not just Canterlot snobs.

Build a fool proof system, and the world will create a better fool.
