Do you think the showrunners build bonfires out of the fanon they burn?

...Ok seriously, I am sick of people warping and demonizing the genuinely sweet and heartwarming moments between Rarity and Spike into abuse and manipulation. Alternate Character Interpretation can only go so far, god dammit! D=

@ Kegi: Ditto . To be honest, for the last few weeks, I had been assembling ideas for a story about the Discord era (probably inspired by me reading the Dune prequels). I kinda like several of my ideas, but I never came through on writing the fanfiction. Good thing now, too, because all of it might become Jossed anyway ^^.

Looking back on it. The ACI (for me) came from the fact that wanting to take someone's birthday gift is a heinous act under ANY circumstance by my standards.

That, and there was a weird dissonance thing with the animation. It GENUINELY looked like she was manipulating him, even if her dialogue didn't

I think Spike and Rarity are a good match. They can be greedy and selfish, but inevitably they'll be generous.

Thing is, she didn't realize that it was a birthday gift. Also she knew was that Spike had a really rare gem, and that he intended to eat it. I can't really blame her too much. And it's not like she went straight for it either, she was obviously resisting fawning over it.

But yeah, the animation and body language is the main problem.

As I said, it's a very personal thing for me. I'm aware that no one else had a problem with it but... GAH!

Here's my take on it, paraphrased from a youtube comment I just made.

I'm not normally one to start arguements or anything, but all the recent attempts to paint the cast's good/funny/sweet moments into acts of crime and/or abuse is really starting to grate me.

RD holding a contest that the pets can OPT OUT at any time? Clearly she's a sadistic slave driver!1!

Spike gives Rarity a gem of his own volition? OMG SHE IZ TEH MANIPULATIVE BITCHY!1!

AJ thinks Zecora has "zebra sense"? TEH RACIST!1!

Etc etc. Its really disheartening that some people genuinely believe the above crap, and more. D=

Ohhhh dear, that might turn into several pages of drama again, might it not? ^^ Well, either way, I'm off to sleep^^.

, We've beaten that topic well beyond death so lets not bring it up again.

I'm actually not expecting much from the play except "ponies didn't always get along, but after this huge crisis now they do". I'm still expecting a lot of behind the scenes shenanigans, and each of the Mane Six act as a rough expy of themselves, so very little actual acting on their part. I wonder how they got roped into this though?

Hey, I've been saying all of those things for days now. The thing with RD and the pet contest really baffles me, given that the entire point of the contest was to find a pet that could keep up with RD while she does all this crazy stuff. I mean, I don't mind it when people make jokes about stuff like this, but honestly considering stuff like that canon really annoys me as well.

Same. I'm kinda hoping that the play ends up going the Stylistic Suck route; like RD ends up breaking the set or something.

@Ginger: The Nightmare Eclipse is what I call the first uprising of Nightmare Moon. The Nightmare Solstice is the second, because it happened on the Summer Solstice.

If I might say something about the RD one:

I think, even knowing that they could've opted out at any time, I still consider RD's plan a bit assholish. True she didn't force them (so she ISN'T a slave driver) but... the fact that she even thought of that race is harsh. She expected these pets to put themselves in life threatening danger, possibly killing themselves, all in the name of becoming her pet? That's just cold.

So for me, it isn't that she was forcing them (which she wasn't), it was that she considered the race a good idea in the first place

I honestly hope it doesn't. I wouldn't be surprised if it does go that route, but I would be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't.

Like I said, the whole point was "I do this kind of crap for fun, and I want a pet that can do it with me". It would be worse if she picked one at random and then expected it to do that crazy stuff with her.

But like Mio said, we've driven this issue into the ground, and in any case I'm kinda sick of arguing about stuff like this that so heavily based in interpretation to begin with.

Yeah that's pretty much I thought too...plus Dash can be a real ass to her friends more often than enough.
