Am I the only one slightly irked by the negative portrayal of Blueblood's lack of chivalry in Best Night Ever? Sure, he turned out to be a jerk anyways, if only for pushing Rarity into the path of a falling cake, but Pinkie referred to him as a "lout" Rarity's better off without

It just seems contradictory that someone who refers to herself as a feminist

portrays failure to live up to traditional gender roles in such a negative light.

The issue was that the relationship didn't live up to RARITY'S expectations. Not ours, not society's , hers.

She wanted a Prince charming, she found an asshole, that's all there is to her sub-plot. The entire episode is a cautionary tale about NOT getting your hopes up to high

Matt: An interesting point and possibly another slip up on the team's part. And given Rarity's attitude toward wanting to be "treated like a lady, " as she herself said, so perhaps she has fallen into that trap. On the other hand, she was still willing to (grudgingly) do things for Blueblood. And I would still argue that he's a self centered jerk for the whole night because even if Rarity was getting the wrong idea, it was still all "take" with him. We constantly seeing Rarity doing things for him, but he never reciprocates.

Rarity meets Blueblood's opposite (what he was supposed to be) in Sweet And Elite. She's torn between him and her friends, but it is he who advises her to stay in Ponyville eventually.

We constantly seeing Rarity doing things for him, but he never reciprocates.

Even so, that would probably be looked at a bit differently with the genders reversed.

Hell, just look how much Spike does for Rarity without winning her over.

I'm hoping that she honestly can't decide between Canterlot and Ponyville, but then Blueblood abruptly shows up (as the primary customer of the shop she's working for) and tips the scale back over to ponyville's side

I think Rarity just ran into the worst match for her with Blueblood. I mean, if he met twilight or pinkie they'd find him irritating, but perhaps not as infuriating as Rar did.

Yeah, Hoity Toity was ok.

He critized those dresses pretty bad, but they were supposed to be horrible. If I was him, I'd be wondering 'is this some sort of joke?'
