@Storyyeller: The funny part is that "shitstorm" has a rather specific meaning in German to which English doesn't limit it; "ein Shitstorm" is a widespread outcry against a public figure or an institution, usually propagated via social media and demanding a response from the target — what an English-speaker would specify as "a shitstorm of bad publicity".

Interesting. I guess it's not really unheard of for loanwords to take on a different meaning. After all, in Japan, anime just means animation from what I've heard.

@King Kix "Smotherer"? That's not a word I'd describe him more like: Aggressive, a loudmouth, Complains about everything and always comes home with a flat miserable look on his face. (Sighs) And besides I'm only gonna get worn down about this whole incident. I have enough on my plate, what with me going back to college, sorting out my transport plans and having to go through an induction day before I actually start college. Plus I wanna meet up with her friend of mine who I haven't seen for ages and the last thing I want is to have my old man on my mind anyway.

Just don't let crap bother you Star. Me personally, I don't even notice negativity for negativity's sake. If there's no constructive criticism to be found, don't pay it any mind. It's empty and bitter and only makes you feel down.

Have you tried tuning him out? I rarely give a damn what my parents think about my life choices if they're ones I find ok and have no negative effect in them, like going to Hot Topic and buying all the damn MLP shirts I want, but that's totally different.
