@Dark: Good luck! Keep us posted!
I'll concur that Sereg is awesome, but what does his dislike of Life & Times have to do with it? -
Midnight Rambler
Perhaps they are simply a new/forgotten old tribe of ponies, like the Flutter and Sea ponies.
I'm still not sure what to make of the bat ponies. Closest thing I have to a headcanon is either that there aren't any, and Luna just used illusion magic to make them look cooler, or they're a subset of pegasi, kinda like how Crystal ponies are a subset of earth ponies.
That would be great. I wonder where the bit of fannon that changelings are mutated flutter ponies come from?
Roses are red, violets are blue.
I'm sorry to say, you've been eaten by a Grue.
Or if you wanted to make it more interesting; reverse it. Flutter ponies were originally changlings who took on less frightening forms.
Have they ever been seen outside of the chariot scene in LE? If not, probably just na illusion.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
I still kind of like my idea that Pinkie is an anti-changeling.

@Story: I don't believe they have, at least not in the show itself. The fans just ran with it.
No cheese flying I hope.
You know what this calls for? Boot Cheese wheel to the head!

Unicorns need a subset too, or they would feel left out.

You begin to suspect that your bowl is a portal to the Meat Dimension.
Give the seaponies horns. Problem solved.
Narwhals are best sea-unicorns.

I think the unicorns really lose out there.
