I prefer Scootalove. I think I remember reading somewhere that she's less the "Sister that likes to beat on you" and more like the "sister that apparently doesn't want anything to do with you and messes with you a lot but loves you deep down."

In an early draft for the show they were meant to be sisters but that was excluded from the final product.

I think it was more the line of thought that "Hey, Apple Bloom is Applejack's sister, and Sweetie Belle is Rarity's sister, so Scootaloo must be related to the mane cast somehow!"

I'll laugh my butt off if she ends up being related to Fluttershy.

But yeah, I think that it was meant in more of a "Rainbow Dash would get sick of having her around and try to avoid her" rather than bullying or abusing her.

I've got a solution for both Applejack's low popularity and the Scootabuse problem!

It's been a hard day. After saying goodbye to the other Cutie Mark Crusaders, Scootaloo sighed and walked away. But then she perked up. Now it was time to go to a secret meeting...

Just on the edge of the Everfree Forest, there she was, Applejack. Scootaloo jumped into her waiting hooves and they shared a—

... On second thought I'm not sure how to continue that without taking it into disturbing territories (bad enough we talk about pony bust sizes here...)

I'm fairly certain that Lauren herself mentioned it in one of her interviews but I could be mistaken.

Speaking of Scoots and RD's relationship, I always found everyone's insistence that Scootaloo would still look up to and try to hang out with RD very odd. Maybe its my own experience that's painting my thoughts on this but I always felt that if they were sisters that they would be mutually avoidant and not like each other very much.

That's what I meant—"The Show Stoppers" revealed SB and Rarity being sisters, and had RD show up along with AB and SB's respective sisters at the end.
