Oh, context. When are you getting back from Bali?
@Ginger: The thing is, you assumed that Rarity was a good pony. I didn't. I considered her a designated protagonist. It doesn't help that Rarity and I wouldn't get along in real life. We're too different. So when I saw how selfless Rarity truly was, it really touched me and made me reconsider my values.

Truth
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
The best way I've found to describe Rarity is as follows:
Remember that one popular rich girl who went to your high school, and who you assumed was just arrogant, obnoxious, and shallow like most of the in-crowd? And then you got to have an actual conversation with her and discovered, to your surprise, that she was a genuinely nice person? That's Rarity.

This is why she's such an interesting character.
I will give this to the Rarity-detractors, though: she's never cruel, but she can be quite thoughtless.

in my book, Rarity is tied with Applejack for best pony.
Applejack has slid down my list in the past year or so. It's the lack of good episodes, I think.
She hasn't had a good episode since what, LBYS?
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
Yeah, she's a pretty unexplored character, I think has gotten less development than Pinkie. Aside from Twi who's the mane of the mane characters, I'd Fluttershy has had the most focus episodes.
Roses are red, violets are blue.
I'm sorry to say, you've been eaten by a Grue.
We've gone over this before, but the main issue with AJ is that since she's the most stable cast member, it's hard to make a conflict based off of her. I think they need to bring back her stubborn streak from the first season.
