I already used Hermes in the Theme Naming, But I suppose I can make the Threshold Guardian an expy of him.

What traits does Hermes have that relate to Rainbow Dash (especially on the mischievous side)?

You could always call him Mercury, or Trismegistus.

He's traditionally described as swift and a trickster.He is also a patron good of athletes and sports, even invented some of them according to some myths.

Okay so Dash's thresh hold Guardian will be the Scorpio Pony (don't ask) with Hermes' personalty and a side of Ax Crazy. And a giant Scoprion names Trismegistus. But what shroud the challenge be? Racing without her wings? Helping somepony else complete the race without cheating?

I would say an increasingly unfair race would be something, or perhaps a race in which she constantly gets cheated.

I can't really say when I became a fan. I wanted to give the entire series a fair chance, so that's why I kept at it. Eventually though, I ended up a fan. Most likely because of Pinkie.

Pinkie actually took me the longest to warm up to. She's just so energetic that she can be a lot to take in. Which might have been the point, come to think of it.

So I updated my liveblog with commentary on the prologue of a terrible video game crossover!

It's interesting the episodes that question comes from never actually answers the question itself. I mean on the one hand, Dash was exercising options Applejack simply couldn't due to having wings - but where exactly does that analogy go? Is it like saying Dash would be 'cheating' if she were naturally faster or stronger than AJ? Or is it more akin to Dash using her torso in armwrestling while AJ is only using her arm?

The question is whether they're comparing their overall physical capabilities or their capability in individual disciplines: The question not being if Dash is faster, but if she runs faster. A aparpalegic might not beat me in a foot race(Then again, for varying definitions of foot they could, but anyways), but they could probably out-box me.

I can't tell what that thing is!

Well, either way, Applejack never manages to do anything right, ever. Can't even harvest her own apple orchard, no, needs Unicorn help to do her frigging job as a frigging workhorse. Can't beat a Pegasus in a physical competition despite being a frigging workhorse. Can't escape her friends when she wants to go away from them; can't win a single gold medal in a competition even when it really matters (so humiliating a failure there).

As a workhorse, I must say that Applejack is rather defective.

You know I once saw a person say that AJ shouldn't have done as well in that episode since RD is actually training to be an athlete while AJ isn't. In that context AJ is an amateur that went hoof to hoof with an actually trained athlete and nearly won.

Though, Applejack kinda is an athlete in a way - the rodeo circuit thing.

Hmm, true. Oh well, some much for that bit of AJ positivity.

Plus, Farmers are just as strong and athletic in feild and track as trained athletes

My main problem is how AJ simply failed to do her job in life. She failed at bucking apples. She simply couldn't buck all the apples and harvest them all. She failed at the one thing that she's supposed to be guaranteed to do well. That's like Twilight suddenly forgetting how to read.

Well, the trouble is that every time Applejack 'fails', it's because she tries to do something fucking enormous. Oh, Applejack is so useless, she couldn't harvest a several-square-mile orchard all by herself. Oh, how humiliating, She only placed second at maximum in every single rodeo event. How pathetic that her and her family couldn't keep up with a machine custom built and amped by magic to do the job they were doing manually.

Everything Applejack does is more badass by degrees than the average pony. I don't see why not being just a little bit more awesome is such a huge deal.
