I've just finished The Last Of Us, started the 2nd draft of my novel, and have heard enough good things about Equestria Girls for me to decide to give it a chance (definitely not going to go to a theater though).a

I didn't know Fancy was a thrall of the ruinous powers.

So, just saw EQG copy.pasting my blog post about it.

Not perfect, but it was the best it could possibly be given the inherent limitations of the concept. Everything DHX could control was freaking amazing, the crap Hasbro forced them to do, not so much.

Hate the concept still, and still find it kind of insulting to regress the ADULT mane 6 into teenagers, not to mention demoting Celestia and Luna from physical goddesses that control the sun and moon and rule a kingdom... to high school principals... Yeah.

So yeah I still have issues with the whole concept, but everything about the execution was as great as you'd expect from DHX and I did enjoy it for the most part.

Nitpicks, the whole Flash Sentry character could have been chopped out without losing anything and he felt really forced and the crush/romance scenes were the dumbest one in the movie. Sunset had no real characterization beyond generic evil alpha bitch, and the sudden turn around at the end was BS. I'm saying she was just faking it to try and get out of trouble as much as possible. Luna just looked weird, the rest were okay, Luna, really really off. And Celestia sounded really off, really flat, dull and unemotional.

Like I said, horrid concept, but DHX did the best damn job they could with it and made a pretty decent and enjoyable movie.

I just got back and now we're talking 'bout art that I swear is too good for words alone? Damn, this thread moves fast!

@Seraphem: I think they could have done better honestly, but I'm still assuming they had more creative control then most people think so I may be wrong.

Yea, it's pretty creative. But I think this guy http://kloudmutt.tumblr.com/ is a bit better. Working on my art right now.

I really don' see how they could have done better within the lmits of the concept. Keep in mind, this wasn't a theatrical movie, it's a Made for TV movie that they decided afterwards to give a limited theater run.

Pretty much everything I have an issue with are things that are conceptual. That plus the whole Flash Sentry waste of time. Which I'm prety sure was Hasbro as well.

Just chiming in to say that I think we have a dupe on the tumblr.

Frankly I think they had plenty of time to work with and I would have expected them to have taken the approach they used in Canterlot Wedding where the relatively mundane wedding plot took a back seat to the mysterious and more fantastical fake cadance/changeling invasion plot. In this case they pretty much went with the exact opposite approach which I found rather strange on their end.

Well they had to set up the new world, and overall I did like it. but okay anothe thing

The ages in the human universe were pretty clearly not the same as the pony universe, I think. I doubt Principle Celestia was 1000 years old.

Umm, no I meant in the non-pony world she owned one, or seemed to.

Yeah The REAL Mane 6 sure as hell aren't teenagers.

Probably a good 35-40 yrs old.
