Owls apparently make decent pets. I had a friend who had a pet owl(His dad was an ornithologist who specialized in them).
I would imagine they're fairly clean, what with the pellets and all. Just pick it up and toss it out what, once a day? I'm not sure if they defecate aside from those.

Of the main cast's pets, probably Winona, since I'm a dog lover. I wouldn't want to steal Applejack's herding dog friend, though. I bet Fluttershy would have a Pomeranian in her menagerie of animals that need loving homes, so I would take that! While I wouldn't be allowed to have yet another Pomeranian, since 3 dogs is the legal limit where I live (for one house), if I lived in Equestria, their legal limit could possibly be larger and allow me to have another Pom along with the two I already have and my Tsundere Elkhound.
