So, the question to ask is, are you willing to put in a lot of time and effort on a project that probably will never finish, if it does may not become popular, and if it does you probably won't get much recognition for on a personal level, based solely on the chance to work and improve?
You should also ask what their previous projects are. Someone who tries to jump straight to the big flashy projects with no evident experience is a giant red flag. At the very least, a prior animation shows they can see a project through.

You need to learn the importance of having no fewer than five computers on your person at all times.
I wonder how long it will be after Google Glass is out until someone modifies it with those lunchtop earmuffs from Homestuck.
Fucking time wasters. Guys I was duped. I thought I was volunteering to help out with the writing on a fan made episode. What it actually was was some kid trying to brainstorm ideas for fanfics. I just said no thank you and walked. He straight up lied to me.
At least you found out quickly. And this is another reason why a prior record is important.

Eh, the article isn't that bad. I think it's overstating some of the issues, but I can kinda see some of the points despite that.
Saw something like that coming, kind of surprised it took this long.
I mentioned this in the comments on that post, but there's nothing wrong with that article. It's saying basically the same thing a lot of bronies have said, and even if you don't agree, the article is pretty reasonable about things. It isn't overly accusatory and ends by asking if people agree or disagree. Honestly its a lot more reasonable about the issue than a lot of bronies have been.
There's a fanfic for that. That actually includes the (humanized) girls fighting as Lo L characters
There's also a fan animated version of the
Lo L trailer.

Did you know that John de Lancie is going to play a character?
I heard Lauren Faust was making a new My Little Pony show.
Am I hurting? Am I sad? Should I stay or should I go?
I've forgotten how to tell. Did I ever even know?
I heard there's this new thing popular among kids called pokey mans or something like that.
