@Enlong: Maybe. Or maybe a kind of Mad Scientist wizard, arrested for dabbling in Chaos magic, and they needed to throw him out where he could cause the least amount of damage. The question is, is The Oubliette a prison made for one, a la Tai Lung, or a prison for many of the worst, a la Azkaban?

And since it's got crazy stuff going on I find it easy to accept what we're told, that the Everfree is the only place weather occurs normally, by our standards, but is unnatural by the world's standards.

Personally I prefer prisons for one. Adds that extra layer of menace to the occupant.

Which is wholly possible. I just think other possibilities aren't, by the same rule, impossible.

I'm not sure if the scale of the map ca be trusted, but the hole for the oubliette seems fairly large...

Also, I don't think we should think of Tailor-Made Prison when the word "Oubliette" is brought up. More often than not, it's referring to the literal term of a prison whose only entrnce is a hole in the top.

Oh, another landmark I'd like to see explored: The Old Mansion. Haunted? Probably. (definitely)

edit: So, if the prisoner is a sorcerer of forbidden chaos magics, one idea of his experimens could be an effective immortaliby, by having his cells randomly remake themselves instead of dying off outright when hey reach apoptosis. As such, his body is periodically changing, to the point that he is not constantly a unicorn, or even a "he".

And that's how he escaped. He bided his time until his body became a pegasus long enough for him to fly out of the prison.

That's... a pretty cool idea, actually. IT would certainly help explain why he's so receptive to Chaos magic.

As for the old mansion, it's definitely haunted. There's even a ghost on the map nearby.

And I still both want to know, and don't want to know what's up with Gelding Grotto.

EDIT: Oh, apparently Twi and Fluttershy fall into the Oubliette in Issue three... I'll have to read that when I get home. Might provide clues as to what it... I guess used to be used for.

edit: Oh yeah, they do fall into it in issue 3. You can see some shackles chained to the walls and such. They get out by teleporting. Seems it's in disuse at the moment.

The old mansion isn't haunted it's just an earth pony in a changeling suit trying to drum up tourism.

Also, my headcanon on how weather/nature works is similar to what Kegisak said. Basically, the world can function on it's own, but it quickly becomes extremely dangerous or unlivable without influence from the ponies. I.e. the Everfree forest is what happens when the ponies leave a forest alone for too long. The pegasi regulate the weather not because weather doesn't happen without them, but because if they didn't run the weather themselves it would become dangerous really quickly. Lots of tornados, floods, hurricanes, droughts, etc. The pegasi basically created a manual weather system that has to be maintained for everything to work properly.

Skimmed issue 4 again. I really like seeing more evidence for a princess's mane being an indicator of her strength.

I don't think my title (Flights of Fancy) is working...because it's about sailing.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about the title until you're pretty much ready to put something out. You can change that at will.

If only this happened for real.
