Trucker, any sort of plant worker(As in, factory type of plant. My only experience with plants is an emulsion plant my dad used to work at, but the atmosphere there was very MA Nly), trainyard employee(Or train worker as well).

If the Keys had a train network, it would be a lot like the the Island Of Sodar. With perhaps it being one of the last places to resist replacing manually pulled trains.

God, don't remind me. Math, physics, and programming were all sausagefests. We had several profs in physics that were bordering on overtly sexist, which goes a long way to explaining why none of the girls got past 300-level.

I definitely need grizzled sea dogs in this setting. Fishing crews would be great, but the problem is, what would ponies fish? Unless they're just shepherding the shoals.

@Applelight: Maybe they farm fish for caviar? Ponies have been shown to eat eggs. Or maybe they could have like seaweed farms or something.

Could be Pearl Divers, too. I recall reading a story where the main character was a peal diver in the Carribean. IT certainly made it SOUND badass, as the dude didn't use any kind of scuba gear or anything - he just trained to have crazy-ass lung capacity.

Possible. It was called The Black Peal, and was in spite of everything not at all related to the Pirates of the Caribbean. I don't recall much plot either, but I think the main plot was that a young Peal Diver finds an extremely rare kind of pearl that attracts some rather unpleasant attentions to him.

'Dell) wikipedia page]] on the book that seems to be the one I recall. Enough vague details match up, at any rate.
