@Applelight: Maybe they farm fish for caviar? Ponies have been shown to eat eggs. Or maybe they could have like seaweed farms or something.
Could be Pearl Divers, too. I recall reading a story where the main character was a peal diver in the Carribean. IT certainly made it SOUND badass, as the dude didn't use any kind of scuba gear or anything - he just trained to have crazy-ass lung capacity.
