I've always been wondering, just how useful are unicorns in daily life? Most earth ponies are kinda screwed as far as lifting and depositing items. At least pegasi can fly to make it easier and potentially can grab small objects with their wings.

For all the earth ponies strength and affinity for nature, they're severely hampered without unicorns to levitate objects or use a massive amount of team effort.

Pegasi feathers look a lot more durable than the real thing anyway. They may not need preening.

[up][up][up]Teamwork is magic I guess. Equestria pony hooves are pretty flexible at any rate.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. They seem to be able to grab things with their hooves (or on occasion, their tails) just fine.
I still can hear the whisper of the summer nights

I thought it was flexy limbs. Like rubber.

I'll grant that hooves in this universe can work in a pinch, but it still seems like cartoon physics are the only thing making it work.

And yes yes, I know a show about talking candy colored magical ponies isn't the best case for hard science, but at least pegasi and unicorns have somewhat of a set of standards to work with. Unicorns have always been depicted as mystical or enchanted in some way and pegasi have always had their wings, but earth ponies... I'm just not sure.

I always imagined they'd reversed-engineered lizard feet before we did and have rubber-soled horseshoes with lizard's-feet contouring for such things.

@ preening

Something tells me it's not something a Pegasi would do in public...it's like a human shaving their pits in a public toilet. tongue

@ earths

Oh this, my wonk. tongue

I'm actually getting better with it now, as MMC showed without a doubt that E Ps can have super plant growing skills. And I've heard a theory that the Pie family have 'reverse' EP powers...they can turn the land barren to produce rocks...

I still prefer to think of it as amping magic. They probably have a specialization that they can 'grow' that varies from EP to EP but is probably at least semi-family based, but you will got offshoots like Pinkie and Big Mac who have different amps.

Honestly, I do like the think of E Ps as having normal hooves but just being good at using them. Mostly because I like the idea of someone trying to use their hooves and completely flubbing it, like Twilight did in WWU, trying to put on her saddle manually.

Horses putting on their own saddles is kinda weird if you think about it.

I actually had a dream about ponies last night ^3^ More specifically, Shining Armor going to show Filly Twilight something that had some kind of significance to the Royal Guard. I don't really remember what it was, I just remember Shining and Filly Twi XD

First of all, isn't it beautifully awesome?

Second of all, Felix has a power that I'd like to explore in ponies...fixing anything. That magic hammer of his could be a good unicorn spell.

But Apple, that also brings up the problem of his powers, he can't break anything.
