@Jake's: ...the thing is, until we have more to go on than their cast lists (which are all short, aside from Pinkie's cast of Mimori Suzuko), I can't confirm or deny that. Mimori's a decent actress from what I've heard, but the other three have done practically nothing aside from Tantei Opera Milky Holmes, so I really can't dispute what that guy's saying. It certainly is a suspicious casting choice.

I really don't think they'll be humiliating Diamond and Silver. Putting how Gilda was treated aside (and that was mostly accidental), the show's message is very much love and toleration, and I particularly despise the 'humiliate the Libby/popular kids with their own tactics, then claim a moral victory' trope. It's a very childish, high-school mentality.

Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

I honestly think that who ever is working on the Japanese is banking on this show appealing to the Moe crowd. Though if they do make a more faithful adaptation I think it will probably come across as a pseudo-throwback to Azumanga Daioh with a bit of Sailor Moon thrown in for good measure. At least that's what I expect from the "newer" Japanese fans.

@Wryte: Well, suspicious or disconcerting, it does smack of slapping names that are well-known to a certain demographic and few others onto an unrelated show to attempt to attract members of that demographic. Japan's no stranger to substanceless 'cute girls doing cute things' shows, and while that's not necessarily a bad thing, I don't know as that'd be my first choice for FiM. I'm not saying we need Sawashiro Miyuki, Inoue Marina, Koshimizu Ami and Hanazawa Kana on the show, but still.

Yuuno is kinda like Fluttershy or Posey :3

Miyako is basically Pinkie with a hint of AJ and Dashie in her energy.

Sae is like a tomboyish Twi with glasses.

Hiro has hints of AJ in her motherliness, although she takes jabs at her weight way worse than Rarity could :V

I'd reckon Hiro makes a better pegasus, so she can get mad whenever Miyako jokes about her eating habits affecting her ability to fly.

Kagura: Also Earth Pony, same reasons
Yomi: Unicorn, to be academic
Tomo: ~~Dumb~~Pegasus, because why be flighty if you can't do it literally
Chiyo: Pegasus, because she needs something to fly with and pigtails won't cut it
Osaka: Earth Pony, because it works for Pinkie
