@Purple: Basically, a new group of characters (the trolls) got introduced late in the narrative, and they ended up erupting in popularity. It created a backlash against people who started reading it just for the trolls, and disregarded the earlier bits.

I saw that comic before, except the Homestuck panel was different. The version I saw had 'Problem Sleuth is better'

I liked Gen 3. It was colorful and tropical. Had a pretty unique flavor, though the Surfing everywhere got old.

And here I am from an outsider's perspective thinking that Homestuck was about the Trolls. I don't think I've ever really heard anyone talk about human characters in the thing.

For a while, the most surefire way to start a flamewar in the Homestuck fandom was to broach the topic of Vriska Serket. The author meant for her to be a Base Breaker, and he succeeded frighteningly.
