They sure are, if their outselling Marvel and DC Comics A-class franchise titles is any indication.

It's the first issue of the adaptation of a highly hyped franchise. I'd outsell sliced bread even if it were crap.

Is the target audience still the same, or are they moving more towards the brony crowd?

The story is aimed at at still being reasonably all-ages, although it's supposed to be a tad darker than the TV series. Also so far the reactions to the comic have been very positive.

There are some shout outs to bronies and pop culture references here and there in the background but that's not too different.

Despite being slightly darker I would also say it's jokier and zanier then most episodes of the show, though that may just be the art style.

The one thing that bothers me most about many humanizations is just how I can't really recognize them. I mean, that Pinkie Pie from Futashy just now could have been any random pink-haired anime girl.

I mean, I'm sure it's inspired by and such, but if I didn't have your word for it, I wouldn't have said that it was, in fact, Pinkie Pie. And there are so many others like that.
