I think Twilight simply doesn't have a direct line of communication to Luna as she does with Celestia. And said direct line to Celestia is sealed off in a dome.
In the comic book, Queen Chrysalis manages to send a Crystal Ball through Spike. Think Twilight could have turned to them for help? :P ... wait no, Spike in a dome again, nevermind...
Also, Crystal Ponies are hax. Seriously, they killed Sauron by thinking really hard about a blue rock.
