Huh, some website called the Daily Dot thinks the fandom has passed the point where it begins to decline. I beg to disagree, based on the memes, the fanmade music, the self-perpetuating fantumblr works and recursive fanworks (fanworks of fanworks, lol), we've hit the same self-perpetuating tier as Touhou and Star Trek and possibly even Transformers, lol.

Well, I've never heard of the Daily Dot, so yeah. And given that season 3's ratings have been insane...

Touhou was fast-growing as a fandom in terms of it being a significant majority on Dan- and Gelbooru, and has multiple boards and a significant presence on youtube. Also its one of the biggest things on Pixiv and Nico Nico Douga, and all fan videos are cut from whole cloth since ZUN art is kinda laughable.

Ponies have at least 3 aligned imageboards, its own 'booru image databases (and several of them at that), and a growing presence on youtube. Not bad for a young fandom. Heh, even the Allspark Transformers Forums have a subforum for ponies, and RP Gnet and Spacebattles have welcomed the pony presence.

yeah, we're pretty well self perpetuating at this point, and as long as Hasbro keeps feeding us new stuff, at the same quality level, we're not going anywhere, once that does stop, we'll still be going for a long time just off the community itself.
