I hate to say this but I just realized something. In the first episode, it is implied that Nightmare Moon was forgotten about after 1000 years. Pinkie Pie was trying to guess what her name was for crying out loud! Now it turns out there is a holiday dedicated to her. Is everyone OK with this?

What do you mean that she was forgotten about? I think the ponies were aware of an entity called Nightmare Moon, they just didn't know the details; that it was Celestia's sister turned bad. I think most ponies knew about Nightmare Moon, but they thought it was just a legend.

Don't you mean the bride of Frankenstallion?

We don't know if the holiday is dedicated to Nightmare Moon. In fact we don't know anything about the "lore" of the holiday other than its so far Halloween with a different name.

Oh I don't want to speculate. It airs tomorrow morning, I can wait.

"It's Nightmare Moon! RUN!" Seriously, Pinkie Pie? You faced her once. You CRIED at Luna and Celestia's reunion!

OK, maybe I'm just overreacting. It may just be her being her random self (the chicken costume shows that). I just hope she isn't the one pony that doesn't want to accept Luna as good until the end of the episode. It would just seem OOC for her.

Still, I can't wait for tomorrow morning!

I'm speculating that after Luna scares the fillies out of their wits, she'll reveal herself and say, "It's okay, girls. It's just me, Princess Luna!" Then, everypony will run away from her, terrified.

Considering the Holiday apparantly involves a GIANT LIFESIZE LIFELIKE PERFECT REPLICA STATUE of Nightmare Moon, I think everyone knew the details.

Or they just happened to know what she looked like. It's fairly obvious in the first episode that not many ponies knew the specifics; Twilight was the only one who knew the legend well enough to tell that NM was going to break free. It's entirely possible that they made the statue based on pictures and stuff depicting the legend, or the statue might just be really old.

^She's Pinkie Pie. You expect her to make sense? If anything, I'd point to everyone else's inability to name her as a plot hole... though to be honest, if there was a children's holiday based off a thousand-year-old fairy tale about a scary dark mare, I don't think she would be my very first guess - it would just be unrealistic.

What about Rainbow Dash? She accuses Twillight of being a spy because she's the only one who reconized Nightmare Moon. Point is, this makes the scenes in the pilot like if Santa Claus walked in and no one could figure who he's supposed to be.

Why are they in the Everfree Forest? Maybe they were on their way to/from Zecora and came across an old statue from what's left of the Lunar Empire?
