I still don't think that they're insects. They're The Fair Folk, which commonly has insect-like physical characteristics in mythology to make them seem more alien, but are decidedly not insects in practice.

The wedding included a dinner party and dance after all. She could easily take part in the evening portion.
Besides I'm quite certain that early Equestrian culture had a duality of day and night, so all ceremony and celebration would have a day and a night component.
