[up]Really? I know they exist in German, but aren't they kind of hard to hear?

Oh, you mean these sounds.

We have glottal stops in English.

It's like when you say "important, " but don't always pronounce the first "t" all the way.

I think it's because of all those clips of Hitler yelling.

It's just the way it sounds. It does sound very angry and excited.

Well, just about every language gets stereotyped in some way. People think Germans are always yelling (not really), Chinese people are all angry (they have to change tones to convey meaning), Spanish people are always talking too fast (not necessarily), and so on. I guess it's a matter of perception! smile

About Scootaloo being unable to fly, that's because an episode was planned that would have revealed that Scootaloo has crippled/disabled wings. That means that she would never be able to fly like Rainbow Dash and the other Pegasi, and it has Tragic Dream written all over it! Of course, she can still use them to propel herself forward pretty fast, like an engine! Obviously, this episode hasn't aired, but time will tell what direction Hasbro wants to go in with a Scootaloo episode.

@ Crowlover: Yes! Those are what I was talking about.

It's not just german really. Those sounds, and the related ones that are found in several german and english related languages combine both the harsh s sound and the gutteralness of speaking from the back of the throat. Those sounds in many ways are to speaking what dissonance is to music. They make a language sound harsh (from the hissing), strong (from the gutteral sounds), and barbaric (possibly from the fact that English used to contain those sounds, and they bring up a cultural memory of more violent times).

[up] Russian and German are about equal in perception. Russian might win out a little bit because of America's more recent enmity towards Russia.

I've found Russian to be a much more serene language, at least in music.

You know what's really not a good thing to have? Two RD's. One is allready trouble enough, but two?......[down]tongue

Well on the plus side, if one RD dies in a fanfic {Like Cupcakes, for instance}, we'll still have another one to take her place.XP

@ Pannic: Agreed, but even then, it's still a wild sound. I've come to the conclusion that Russian is my absolute favorite language for music, mostly due to Origia and the aural gymnastics she pulls in her music.

French may be elegant, Latin may be noble, Japanese may be easy, but Russian is alive.

Italian's the easiest language to sing in, but I really do love the beauty of the Russian language. And the beauty of Russian music, for that matter.

I come baring the first proper image of the hero of my story, who I believe is called 'Atlas Gold the Globetrotter' at the moment.

I took a shot in the dark with the dreadlocks. Not sure if that was a good idea. Also, wanted him to have a perma stubble or light beard going on, but can't it to look right. I need feedback!

@ Storyyeller: When nearly all your words start with a consonant and end with a vowel, it tends to make things easier. The phonetic nature of Japanese is one of the primary reasons why its the first language where people were able to create a usable artificial singing synthesizer.

Out of all the languages I've sang in, I've found German to be both the most difficult, and the most pleasing when done right. A huge part of singing is pronouncing each and every word correctly and clearly, never slurring the hard consonant sounds together. German has so many of those sounds that it takes a while to get acclimated to, and you have to focus on each and every word to make sure you don't slip. When you do get it right, though, well-written German lyrics practically come with their own percussion accompaniment thanks to that sound.

I learned to sing Ave Maria in German once.

It is a beautiful song, and I think it sounds best in German.
