The "This Day Aria" with Sweetie Belle vs. Diamond Tiara made me realize some interesting similarities between the two of them/their relatives:

Sweetie and Diamond's color schemes are almost exactly the same, Sweetie just has a white body with pink streaks in her mane while Diamond Tiara has a pink body with white streaks in her mane. Also, their manes are both partially lavender.
Diamond Tiara is kind of like an evil child version of Rarity, they have similar tastes and interests, and Rarity can be prissy and snobby at times too (and they both enjoy gossip to some degree) but Rarity is a lot kinder and more caring and able to be friends with those who are different from her unlike Diamond Tiara. Also, Diamond Tiara's wealthy background is opposite of Rarity's working-class parents but Rarity WANTS to be an upperclass girl.
In a reversal of the usual stereotypes of their races, Diamond Tiara is a classy, snobby Earth pony from an upperclass background, while Sweetie Belle is a friendly, clumsy unicorn with parents who at least seem more working class in their behavior.

@Veni: In the original cartoon storylines, their Quintesson slavemasters designed them with genders to appeal to the consumer market. In the IDW comics continuity, gender was introduced to the Cybertronians by a mad scientist.
