I think it's less that they hate the article itself and more that they hate the tsundere character type that it's discussing.

I only know what that is cause of TV Tropes, and I don't think I get it.

Like, get it, you know?

I've been watching anime for well over a decade.

I had enough of tsunderes.

@Mousa: I honestly didn't think Madoka was as depressing as people say.

Well, if you want to be really technical it's just a garbage dump; most of the time the word for "Hell" is "Gehenna" which was the valley where Jerusalem burned its garbage

I'm actually more familiar with Sheol, though I'm not actively studying it and I'm just dragging on the off-topicness with this comment.

And the most depressed I got with Madoka was after Episode 3 for about a day.

Mio, you don't think anything as emotion inducing as it is.

And my response is identical to d Roy's.

@Mousa: Despite my general tendencies, I really do think you could do far more soul-crushing then Madoka. Hell, it even had a pretty happy ending all things considered.

Yeah, Madoka really isn't that depressing.

Berserk on the other hand...

Yes, a surprisingly happy ending, I just don't like sitting through 12 episodes without so much as a joke.

I thought that scene where a girl getting her head eaten eup was funny.

1984 crushes your soul, man.

Wow.

It's like getting whacked in the face with A Communist Manifesto.

And Darkness at Noon?

Damn.

Unsurprisingly, the author eventually killed himself.

Well it isn't like you go in expecting comedy is it? I mean I went in knowing it was supposed to be depressing.

Welcome to the NHK is bestsoulcrusher because it's funny and true.

I wonder if there's been any pony crossovers with that show...

Google says no. But I did find this.

Mousa, comedy is a cheap and plentiful substance. I think you can last 12 episodes without it, afterwards you can just put on ponies again and get your daily dose.

How long is an account a "new account?"

But wow, Darkness at Noon comes with the coveted Connie Seal of Recommendation.

I went knowing this:

"GREATEST THING EVAR!"

"REDEFINES A GENRE!"

"THIS AIN'T YO' MOMMA'S MAHOU SHOUJO!"

"DARKER AND EDGIER!"

"A COMPLETE SUBVERSION AND OTHER COMPLEX LITERARY TERMS."

If I wasn't going to have comedy I figured there would be something completely over the top of stupid I could laugh at or insult and that was all used up when blondie lost her head.

Or, you know, alternate between watching Madoka and ponies, or whatever depressing thing and lighthearted thing.

@ed: It does its best to make you lose all hope and faith in goodness, and believe that God is apathetic and powerless at best and nonexistent at worst.

You think that maybe nobody gives a shit about their fellow human beings.

You think about why the happiest scene in Soylent Green was the old man's suicide.

You think about a lot of things.

Also, now that I think about it, the first two episodes of Madoka were pretty jokesy.

But we're getting off-topic. Though we could always continue the discussion in the YF thread.

Sometimes I think that maybe there really are countless things worse than dying, but that doesn't give me any comfort faced with the inevitability of my own.

I always watch a depressing one first and then cheerful. For example, I am planning to finish Evangelion and then TTGL.
