Thanks. They aren't pleasant.
@ Mio
I do have a cold coming on...and I am worried about getting started...that must be it...not what I thought.
@ crow
Oh that! Yes, I heard. I guess it'll be a November start now.

Maybe Hasbro or The Hub is going to hold a "Guess the start date" contest.

Now this here is the very first episode to star Spike, and I am glad that this show has avoided subjecting him to Positive Discrimination! That, and the Dick Dastardly (the mustache-twirling silent movie era villain) getup was a nice touch!
So I'm wondering...did anyone like Owlowiscious? Because I have to say that I didn't like him. Why? Well, let's see:
His name, for starters. You have "Owlowiscious", "Owloysius", "Aloysius", "Owlicious", and some even thought they were hearing "Owl Wishes"! Spell My Name with an S is an aggravating trope at times, and the official(?) spelling of his name makes him sound pompous and pretentious.
The fact that he's The Ace. To me, that sort of character has to be used carefully. Since I like Spike, I found that owl constantly being one step ahead of Spike to be spiteful and annoying.
That owl rotated his head 180 degrees and I'm in agreement with Spike when he says, "Dude! That's creepy!" Can owls really do that?
As you may have noticed in the clip, there was a brief shot showing that owl as a silhouette and his eyes glowing. I was so sure that owl was going to turn out to be evil. It didn't happen, making this a Fauxshadow. Since I didn't like the owl so much, I feel that They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot.
That owl never talks, and just says "Hoo", and naturally a number of characters think he's saying "Who?" A character that doesn't talk is not necessarily a bad thing, but in this case, it prevented the owl from having any personality to speak of.
Frankly, I'm glad the owl hasn't made many appearances!
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!

There's a lot of Who's on First? jokes being made too On top of that it's the first episode to really showcase Spike's racial territorial defensiveness as a Dragon.
A lot of people found the episode dull and did not like Owloyicious (or however it's spelled). I though it was alright, and I am indifferent towards the owl.
You know what G1 episode they should retread? The multi-parter with Tambelon and Grogar.
My Little Pinkie: Sugar Is Magic.◊
Two things I noticed about this cover:
1. Do their ears look tiny to anyone else?
2. Fluttershy looks like she's getting ready to "accidentally" crush Angel with her hoof. Doooooo iiiiiit!

I like the Owl, personally, and the episode shed some good light on what exactly Spike values. And yes, owls really can rotate their heads that far.
I didn't mind the owl too much, although I thought he was kinda dull. The episode as a whole is middle of the road for me; I liked how it focused on Spike's interaction with the ponies and the Snidely Whiplash getup, but that was about it.

Yeah, I was plagued with nosebleeds when I was younger too, sorry that happened to you, Applelight. Here's to better days.
And as for the Owl's well discussion, I just like it for Spike, I don't care for that annoying owl thing, especially that "Who" joke, god, only Abbot and Costello could make it funny...

If Red Savant were here, he might be able to translate those.
Oh, by the way, I don't Thread Hop, so I'm more often than not going to see comments you leave for me if such a situation occurs again.
